January 23

Due to an en banc hearing, this Thursday's (1/25/2007) Commission Meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m.

January 22Effective 6am, Hearings scheduled for LaPlata are cancelled, all other hearings will proceed as scheduled.
January 18

The Commission has provided a bulletin board at 10 E. Baltimore Street, 4th Floor, for the posting of Commission-related community information.

Posting Guidelines and Restrictions:

Materials must relate to workers' compensation community-related information and activities. Postings may consist of workers' compensation related events, educational programs (whether employee or employer related), seminars, new case law or opinions, and sponsored activities relating to workers' compensation. Examples of these include information pertaining to the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, Maryland State Bar Association, Kids' Chance, Southern Association of Workers Compensation Administrators, Maryland Workers' Compensation Educational Association, Maryland Defense Counsel, etc. Notices that contain solicitations for business or self-promotion will not be accepted. Notices will remain posted for 30 days or until their printed expiration date. Notices must be capable of being reproduced on a single piece of paper no larger than 8 " x 14 via inkjet printer, and must contain contact information (including a valid e-mail address) for the individual or entity requesting the posting. If the request for posting is denied, the requestor will be notified via e-mail.

The Workers' Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) will present the results for Maryland from two WCRI benchmark studies in Baltimore, MD.   
- CompScope' benchmarks of system performance
- Anatomy benchmarks of medical prices, payments and utilization

The WCRI CompScope' multistate benchmark study (7th edition) compares the workers' compensation system performance for Maryland with that of 13 other states (Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin). The new WCRI Anatomy report (6th edition) provides a detailed benchmark of the medical costs and utilization in Maryland compared with other states.

January 11

The Commission has scheduled January dockets for Allegany and Garrett Counties to be heard at the Oakland Courthouse, located at 203 South Fourth Street, 3rd Floor Master's Courtroom, Oakland, Maryland 21550. 

Beginning in February, and until further notice, (CUM) dockets set for Allegany and Garrett Counties will be held at the Rocky Gap Lodge, located at 16701 Lakeview Road, N.E., Flintstone, Maryland 21530 (1-800-724-0828).

January 2Effective February 2007, the Commission's Western Maryland Regional Hearing Site is the Rocky Gap Lodge, located at 16701 Lakeview Road, N.E., Flintstone, MD 21530.  Hearing notices will display the address as above as applicable.  See the January 11 Update above for more information.

The Workers' Compensation Commission recognizes that attorneys may occasionally experience calendar conflicts and will attempt to accommodate reasonable requests for priority provided that they are submitted as soon as practicable upon receipt of the hearing notice.
It is the requesting attorney's responsibility to notify opposing counsel of the docket accommodation request.

January 1 MD Workers' Compensation Commission benefit rates for calendar year 2007 are posted to our MD Compensation Rates page (link).  This information is also posted as PDF for view/print in  Adobe  Reader.  This information is effective on January 1, 2007.
The location for all January 2007 hearings scheduled in Cumberland has been changed (to Garrett County).  The January  hearing location is: (Garrett) County Courthouse, 203 South Fourth Street, 3rd Floor- Master's Courtroom, Oakland, Maryland 21550. See the January 11 Update above for more information.
