September 30

The Commission is proud to announce the October 15, 2003 opening of its new Southern Maryland Regional Hearing Site in LaPlata, Maryland.  The address is Olde Towne Center at 403 East Charles Street, LaPlata, MD 20646.  Please note that the WCC's regional hearing sites do not open until 9:00 a.m.

A map link will post prior to the site opening and information on this web will update in early October.
Directions: U.S. Rt. 301 South & turn left (east) onto East Charles Street (State Rt. 6), proceed through the first traffic light and turn right onto LaGrange Avenue, turn left into parking lot behind the building on the left. The entrance is located in the rear of the building fronting East Charles Street.

September 18Commission offices were closed at 1 p.m. Thursday September 18, 2003 due to the effects of hurricane Isabel.   All WCC hearings set for Friday, September 19, 2003 are cancelled.  The Commission offices in Baltimore City will be open on Friday with limited staff and services.  Governor Ehrlich has declared a state of emergency in Maryland.  Our customers' patience and understanding is appreciated during this extreme and unusual weather emergency.
September 17Hearings scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2003 are cancelled if the City/County in which the Hearing Site is located announces that schools are closed due to the effects of hurricane Isabel.
Early school closings or late openings DO NOT affect a scheduled hearing.

September 15Workers' Compensation Appeals is updated.

Reiteration/Clarification (of August 8, 2003 Notice)
The Commission no longer accepts "counsel of record" for a specific employer/insurer.  An attorney must enter his/her appearance in each individual case.

In addition, the Commission is no longer entering the claimant's attorney based on the information provided on the claim form (C-1).  The claim must be accompanied by a Request to Enter Appearance of Counsel form (C-24R 9/03).  The Employee Claim Form C-1 is in the process of revision and the attorney information fields will be removed  from the form.
